Accessories for a Christmas Bear

Two images showing a before and after of a white teddy bear with old and new stripy hat and scarf

It’s Christmas! (or thereabouts)

A few months ago, when looking through my teddy boxes, I found this little fellow. He himself was fine, but his knitted hat and scarf were looking a little worse for wear, likely having fallen prey to moths. :(

Two close-ups of moth-eaten knitted accessories on a white teddy bear: on the left, a beret-like hat with red and white stripes; on the right, a scarf with a matching pattern to the hat

I had a go at stitching the holes in the hat, but the scarf was probably beyond repair. So I thought I’d crochet him some new warm accessories!

I liked the sparkles in the red yarn used in the original, so I found some 3-ply yarn with sparkles in both the red and the white (specifically Lincatex Gold Rush in Cherry Red and Irise White).

For the scarf I kept the design similar to the original - a simple striped tube with the ends sewn shut. With the hat, however, I thought it would be fun to do a bobble-hat instead of the beret style, while keeping the stripes to match the scarf. Also, while I liked the jaunty angle of the old hat, I wanted the new one to stay on without sewing, so I made the base of the hat roomy enough for both ears. I thought they turned out rather cute!
