What’s That Under The Bed…?

Dark image of crocheted monsters coming out of the shadows

As a tradition in our household, we like to do topical quizzes and treasure hunts for Halloween. Usually it’s my sister that plans these, but this year I took it upon myself to plan a treasure hunt for my family. The grand prize, of course, includes some spooky-themed chocolate treats, but I just had to add a little something extra…

BOO!

The idea of the treasure hunt is that they have to go around the house looking for little ‘ghosts’ that I’ve made out of tracing paper. Each ghost has a letter written on it, so that when they find all the ghosts, they have to put them together to form a phrase:

Five pictures, each showing paper ghosts with a letter written on each spelling out a word; altogether the pictures say "WHATS THAT UNDER THE BED"

Hopefully this will lead them to look under their own beds, where they will each find their very own crocheted monster, sitting atop their chocolate prizes!

These monsters were made by adapting patterns from Crocheted Finger Puppets by Gina Alton:

  • Left: Monsters pattern, made slightly bigger

  • Middle: front and arms are from the Robots pattern, back end from Snail, both made slightly bigger

  • Right: body, legs and claws from the Crab pattern, heads from Octopus pattern made slightly smaller

I also adapted the patterns to make them soft toys instead of finger puppets.
